FIDDLES IN THE FOREST
Residential traditional music programs designed to ignite students' excitement and love of traditional fiddle music.
"Fiddles in the Forest" a 3 day residential program at The Ashokan Center in Olivebridge, New York, led by Aldo and other local professional musicians. Participants will learn fiddle melodies, rhythmic and harmonic accompaniments, and applied music theory, enabling them to create fun jam sessions with their friends. Fun, challenging activities such as body percussion, harmony singing, and folk dancing are taught, awakening students' innate musicality and fostering group cooperation.
"Fiddles in the Forest" is a safe social environment where students of different ages and abilities can explore the limits of their knowledge without fear of 'mistakes.' The workshop emphasizes positive social dynamics, where each person's achievements are celebrated, and the success of the whole group can be enjoyed by all.
In addition to new music, students can explore Ashokan's historic 365-acre campus, hike to Cathedral Gorge, and learn some wonderful traditional crafts, such as blacksmithing and broom making. Students will return home with lots of new music, cherished memories, and a hand-made artisanal item that they created.
